  3. Allison Hildebrand: Who Killed Sarah Byrnes
The reason I choose this book was because it had less sports as the plot. When I read over the plot of the other books it just did not seem appealing as for the book I choose and that was Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. Another reason I choose this book was because it delt with body insecurities and I kind of can relate to that topic.

I am incredibly happy with my choice so far!

I really do not like the back in forth of the plot because one minute you are in school, then at swim practice, then at the hospital with Sarah and lastly at home. Honestly, it is very confusing, I like a simple plot of where the character is at not this back in forth stuff. I like how Sarah is the main mystery of this book because she does not talk at all but in the past, she was wild and crazy. At one point in my life, I had a friend who was like Sarah she looked out for her friends and I like that she puts her friends first instead of herself.

    3. The jumping around really confuses me. I like more simple plots as well!

    4. Sometimes jumping around in the book is a way to confuse the reader and help mystify the plot/ the answer to the problem, but that is just something i have seen in many books i have read prior so i may be a little of track.

My book is Chinese handcuffs and I liked the description at the back of the book. where it talk about how good he is at sports and his goal of being in the ironman. As far on the book that I am, I do like the book. the way it started as a letter and then given details how things become to be that were talk about in the letter. At first I that it was going to be boring but only because i did not understood it at the beginning because it started as a letter and telling how thing happen. Overall I am started to like the book as it is evolving.

  11. I Chose the book Stotan Because the characters and I are similar, Because they are seniors in high school about to enter a new chapter in their life so I felt a connection between them and myself. I also was interested by the title of the book and was curious to see the meaning behind it. Also when we read the summaries of Chris Crutcher's books Stotan caught my attention because it had more serious subjects, like death, domestic violence, and racism.

  12. I chose the book Chinese handcuffs because I read the summary and it caught my attention by bring up Dillions brothers suicide. After reading that I wanted to find out more about it. So far I am happy about the choice I've made by choosing this book. The start was a little slow but I got into it more when Dillion started to write his letters to his dead brother. So the book has become more enjoyable as I've read. The most interesting thing I have read so far is when Jen goes to the hospital but is afraid to have her little sister stay home with her parents. As it goes along we find out she was abused by her dad when younger. That was the most interesting part of the book so far.

  13. I chose Running Louse because it sounded a lot like Epworth. It gave me small town vibes and I wanted to see how different it would be compared to our small town. I also chose it because I enjoy reading books about high school and the different perspectives that they put forward. I got interested even more when it talked about how he went from hero to zero and how that effected his life. I wonder if he can turn his life around and gain everyone's respect. One more thing is I remember my friend who was a senior last year said it was a short book and it was decent.

In the beginning when I had to choose which book to read, I felt that this was going to feel more like an assignment rather than an enjoyable read but I was wrong, one of my chouses was Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. Looking through the book I saw that this book has a lot character, and suspense, in some ways, I felt this book was going to be an enjoyable book. Now that I read a few chapters I can say that I am glad that chouse this book because while the characters that Crutcher created feel like real people and that the situation, they have been in feel real to appoint that they could have happened. Read this book has made me change my thoughts about this book to a point where I really enjoy reading every day. I have made many connections throughout the book like how Sarah got her scars I felt that it was a little strange that she doesn’t like talking about how she got them. It has interest me so much that I can’t put the book down.

This book sparked my interest because Eric and Sarah both had self-image/self esteem issues that made them connect. The plot of this book interested me more than the plot in all the other books. So far, so good with my choice on this book.
This book's plot jumps around a lot, I've noticed since I have started reading this book. It gets hard to follow at times. They introduce a lot of new characters at the beginning as well. Eric is a great friend for visiting Sarah at the hospital as much as he has so far!

I picked the book Running Loose as my number 1 book. I picked this book because it is about sports and I kind of enjoy books about sports. I feel like they always have a nice plot to the book. I am happy with my book because I also love football more than most sports. I really like Dakota (old man at the bar with Louie). It seems he has lots of knowledge and advice to share with the younger generation. It is also enjoyable because the setting is in a high school setting and many of the situations in the book can be relatable to the average high schoolers life. The connections I have made to this book is that me and Louie are both determined to achieve their goals in sports.

  31. I chose Stotan because it is different from any book I've heard of. It is about a swim team and I feel like that's not a common theme that authors like to write about. So far it is pretty interesting. the characters have a lot of depth and they feel like they were inspired by or based on real people. I like how it talks about their lives outside of the main story.

    3. I agree with you when you say the book Stotan! is different in its own way. Swimming is not as famous of a sport and it is very rare to find a book on swimming. Most sports books are either football or baseball because those are sports most people are involved in. I feel like there should be more books on sports that are not as common to let people know they put a lot of dedication and time into the sport.

  32. The reason why I chose Chinese Handcuffs was because the kids in the book are around the same age as us and did and do dumb things teens do so its easy to relate. 40. I chose the book Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes because the description of the book intrigued me. One of the things I hate most is being forced to read a book that I have absolutely zero interest in because then I end up not reading it because when I do I am just miserable the whole time. So far, I am happy with my decision of choosing this book. At first, it was really confusing and me and my group had no idea what was going on, but now it is really good in my opinion. I am finding the book to be enjoyable and interesting because mental health and everything else that has happened in this story always catches my attention. I have not really made any connections yet, but I am sure hoping to soon!

    2. I related to this a lot, reading is not one of my favorite things to do so picking a book i'll actually be interested in is a pretty important to me so I will actually stay focused on the book I'm reading.

  41. Even though Chinese Handcuffs was my second choice, I am intrigued with how the story is evolving. Dillon is a little difficult for me to figure out. His mind can be a little all over the place, but overall, I think he is a good character in the novel. I think it is healthy that he writes letters to his dead brother--good therapy. I feel this book is relatable to teens who have a difficult home life, as this novel relates to suicide, sexual abuse, divorce, etc. I wasn't sure if I liked the book initially, but it is growing on me.

  42. I got the book running loose, I had it in my top 3 because it was about a senior in high school and I thought it would be good since the person is around my age, it made u want to keep reading. Yes I am happy with my choice so far it seems good from what I’ve read. My thoughts at first, I was trying to figure out all the characters that popped up throughout the chapters then a couple times I got confused because he was talking about other things after he was talking about something else like he was getting side tracked. I think the book is pretty enjoyable so far. I haven’t made any connections yet but maybe later on in the book.

  43. I am reading the book staying fat for Sarah byrnes. It is kind of confusing sometimes to follow from certain point of views. I like the newspaper though how they always are getting into some on that. Overall it is easy to read just hard to follow

  44. I am happy with my book choice for right now I might change my mind the more I get into it. My thoughts on the book are that it is kind of confusing because things are bouncing around from place to place. the setting of book goes back in forth between football and work areas. Right now, the book is boring. The reading is ok for a book. Not my type but ill adjust. Connection's with the book are a no for now?

Even though Stotan was not my first choice, I am happy with the book so far. Some things that interested me was that I can relate to the chracters as they are seniors in high school, and that we both play sports that are not as popular as others. My intial thought of this book is that it was going to be boring and I would have to force myself to read another book that I have no interest in, but I can gladly say that is not the case with Stotan. Some may say that being in a non popular sport is not a big deal, but it is nice to be able to relate to others when you put in hours and hours of practice and then don't get the appriciation you deserve. I am enjoying the book so far because it shows a real story of a senior in high school, not a sugar coated perfect world where nothing bad happens. It shows the struggles of characters and I really enjoy that because I hate reading books that try to make it seem like the world is flawless.

    1. I agree with you when you say you like how the story is not sugar coated. I feel like when different stories make the main characters' perfect, it doesn't make you want to keep reading because it is not interesting. It makes me want to keep reading when I read about the main characters' struggles because it puts a different meaning behind the story.

  47. I am reading the book Staying fat for Sarah Byrnes. The book in the beginning was kind of hard to follow with all the flashbacks and turning points. I think that as you read on and you find out more you can understand things a lot better and there easier to figure out. I like the book and am excited to finish it.

  49. I am reading the book Running Loose. I picked this book because it is a book about sports and that really interests me. I also picked this book because it is about a person who is around the same age as I am, which makes it a little easier to understand. So far I have enjoyed reading this book, however it does get a little confusing because the main character seems to get side tracked and off topic when talking.

  55. Olivia Hefel: Stotan!
I am currently reading the book Stotan! by Chris Crutcher. I didn't get to choose what book I read due to joining the class late. Although I didn't get to choose my book, I am very happy and interested in the book I am reading. The chapters always leave off on a sentence that makes me want to keep reading. I also like how the book shares real aggressive stories about the main characters' background. It doesn't say they come from a perfect family. Most of the characters come from a rough background and they deal with a lot more then what their friends think, such as being abused. I feel like in different stories when it talks about how the main characters get everything handed to them, it doesn't make the story as interesting and it sounds fake.
I do not think the reading is confusing at all. It is a very easy read and easy to follow.
I have made several connections to the book. The first connection is that the main characters are seniors in high school and I am also a senior in high school. In the book, it talks about the main characters' future plans and somethings they are undecided on. I can relate to that because I am starting to look at my future plans. I could also relate to the book, because the main characters are involved in a sport, swimming. I am also involved in a sport, tennis. I feel like they are both sports that most people don't pay as close attention to, but we put in as much hard work as any other sport. Overall, I am really liking the book and can't wait to see what happens next!
