  1. What sparked my interest of this book is finding out more about the Taliban because I don't really hear much about it. The primary focus so far is education for females in the community and Malala kind of touches on that. We haven't really found out more about her but it seems like she's a normal teenage girl. Slow start because it just talks about mainly her father and the school system.

    5. The beginning of the book is very slow. They mainly just introduce family, friends, her father's college and his own school, and her mother and how she didn't finish her schooling.

    6. I agree, the book starts off really slow and doesnt focus much on Malala as a person but more her relatives and traditions.

  2. freshmen year I learned a little about I am Malala but I didn't know her backstory all I knew is she got shot in the face and now half of her face is paralyzed and now that I know a little more I'm more interested with everything that's going on I never knew there was the meaning behind how she got her name at least not named after a hero who also had the same outcome but died from getting shot in the face

  3. my book is I Am malala and what attracted me was that it talk bout someone who was trying to do something for someone especially for people who wish to have education. the primary focus in my novel is a goal that a girl has to give education to as many children back at her country, where men think that women should not go to school. she right now is talking about her family and and how she got shot in the head by a group of leader call taliban but luckyli is alive. after reading a couple of chapter i like the book because it is easy to read and understand.

    2. my book is close to the same also because the country is in a civil war and a lot of people are in danger like the taliban in the middle east.

    3. Marium the main charater in my book also wants an education but her mother says no because there is nothing out there for a girl like her 'a bastard' and all she needs to know how to do is endure.

  4. Kite Runner was my 3rd or 4th pick but what attracted me to this book was the reviews about this book. While reading through the review it brought up certain situation, I have seen in other books that I really enjoyed. So, I thought that since I enjoyed those books, I would really like this book. The primary focus of this novel so far is about Amir protecting his friend Hassan from everyone criticism about his beliefs and about his mother and how she abandoned Hassan and his father when Hassan was very young. So, far Amir and Hassan are handling it well but think something is going to happen that is going to change everything for the worse. After the first few chapters the jumped right into the story and the problems that both are going to have to face throughout the novel.

  5. The Book a long way gone caught my attention because it is a topic I do not know much about. The main focus is about child soldiers in Africa, the main character is Ishmael a boy who is try to survive a war in his country of Sierra Leone. Ishmael as of now in the book is hiding from rebels in villages and in the forest, his family and friends are gone and he doesn't know if they are dead or alive. The book was a little slow at first but it picked up quick after the rebels attacked his home village.

    3. I can relate marium in some way because she had no choice in her birth and she is somewhat of a soldier to nana and is just trying to survive at this point until she can possibly live with her dad Jalil.

  6. I am reading thousand splended suns. the first thing that attracted me was how her parents were not together. right away I knew I had something I could connect to. I comprehend books better when I can connect with the characters. The main focus in my book is surviving raising a family in a hard time. So far I think this book will be interesting!

  7. the thing that attracted me to the book A long way gone was I already know a bit about middle eastern countries and how they treat people and a lot about the Taliban. So I just wanted to read something different a bought a kid that could make through a civil war. the primary focus is right know is ishmael and his buddies are running from the rebels and going from town to town. The start of the book is pretty slow right know. my first impressions are that it is a good book so far.

  9. The book I am reading is A Long Way Gone by Ishmeal Beah
and the first thing that attracted me to this book was the cover of a boy carrying a rpg on his shoulders and an ak47 on his shoulder strap. I am intrigued by books about wars. My first thoughts on the book was it was very different to what I experienced as a kid. And when I read the part where soldiers came to a village and killed a priest because he knew where kids where hiding. Its crazy what the would do to enslave the kids to become soldiers in there army.

  10. The book Night was my top pick because I've always been interested in history about WW2 and the holocausts. But right as I started reading the book it jumped right in. I didn't expect for Elie's brother to get taken right away. But his brother managed to escape and when he came back no one believed what he saw, no one was taking the situation seriously. With it starting like this I started to like the book right away.

  11. In a thousand splendid suns what attracted me was the relationship marium had with her mother that she lived with which was not much of a good or positive one at all and the relationship she had with her father who had only come to see her once a week but she adored him. The book jumps right into details like how marium is a harium or bastard and how nana thinks the jinn or spirit will possesher when marium shatters one of her china pieces.

  12. I am Malala. This book has a slow start, It starts by talking about her family and eases into it. I personally don't like this book for this reason. The primary focus of this book is Malala's campaign for human rights especially the woman's right to education. What attracted me to this book is when she is passionate about something and she finds a way to get it.

  14. so I am reading the book the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and I think the main focus is to try to survive in Afghanistan by making friends and not to get caught by your dad or by guards, and the 2 kids (Amir-rich kid, Hassen-poor kid) are always being yelled at by no reasons and I just would not like to live in a place like this. the book is a bit confusing and it is a very scary place to live because they live near an army and I don't know if there is wars going on but that'd be scary. it was a bit of a slow start but but it did jump in after the first few chapters. overall I think that this book will be tough to read but it will be interesting to read about.

It is sad but true how there are terrorist that have control and spread fear in country's. The main threat in the story I am reading are these rebels invading peoples towns and killing them. 22. I am reading a long way gone and so far it is a pretty slow book. I picked it because it was about a war that I know little about and to see how Africa differed from America. so far I have seen that most people do not have cars, and that a lot of people do not get a formal education. other than that I haven't really seen enough to make connection yet but it is still some what interesting in how some people have already died by by the end of chapter one.

I picked A Long Way Gone because I was interested in the wars in Africa and how it affected the people. The main focus in the book is for Ishmael and his friends getting away from the war to survive. All of the them have been traumatized in the first part of the book from people dying. I think the book has started out good but is hard to capture everything that is happening. It does have a slow start in the beginning but out of nowhere the war is to there village. My first impression of the book is that it was horrible for all of the children in Africa because they were dying and seeing there friends die.

  25. 1) The Book that I had picked was night, the reason i had picked this book is because I think the things that were happening during WWII was interesting/ unique. I don't know how to say it but, the reason I'm so intrigued by this time period is because my great grandpa was alive at the time and he used to tell stories that would always interest us great grandchildren. The main character of the book is the one who wrote it and so far, he seems to want to leave safely with everyone, but he missed the chance when he did not immediately leave when they first came to their town. The start was kind of slow but now we are in the thick of them getting moved to the camp and it does not seem good even in the slightest. My first impressions are good but only time can tell if my impression stays the same.

  27. I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and what drew me to the book was the culture aspect. I really enjoy reading about other countries and how different their cultures are, especially when it comes to how they treat men and women. The main focus of this book is a young girl, Mariam, and her family. Her mom lives in a little hut with her daughter, Mariam. Her father and mother are not together, and her father takes her out for visits every Thursday. Her parents kind of talk a lot of smack about each other to Mariam, but im sure it'll all come into play later. After reading the first 7 chapters, the book kind of jumped right into Mariam's life and didn't waste too much time getting into the details. So far, I would say I'm pretty invested in this book.

  35. I am reading the book I am Malala, and I chose this book because it was different than other books that I have read beofre and wanted tot try soemthing different. The primary focus right now is education and the differences between girls and boys in her family. Malala's father talked about the inequality in the family. The girls don't attend school because they are waiting to get married and when it comes to meals the girls are fed much smaller portions and less tasty food compared to the boys. This doesn't sit right with Malala because she thinks everyone should have a good educationa and that all should be treated the same. When I began reading, there was a slow start and I was not hooked right away because in the first couple chapters it mainly just talks about Malala and her family and the education system.

  36. I am reading the novel The Kite Runner. What interested me about this novel is that I would get to learn about the culture in Afghanistan. The two main characters in this novel are Amir and Hassan. They are best friends and have grown up together. Amir, who was born into wealth, has Hassan as a servant. Amir is always seeking his father's approval and feels jealous when other children, even Hassan, receive attention from his father. Amir has a love/hate relationship with his father and only wants to be loved by him. My first impression is very mixed, because I feel sorry for Amir about finding it impossible to win his father's approval and love. However, I do not like Amir when he makes fun of Hassan and talks down to him as if he is less than. I sense their lives and friendship are about to change.

  37. What attracted me to the novel A Long Way Gone was that it has to do with war. I have always been interested in anything that has to do with wars because you are able to learn what it was like back then. So far in the novel the primary focus is that there are attacks towards the villages. Many people are being killed. The main characters are trying to get back to the village, but realize that its best to stay where they are. It does seem like a slow start so far, and it is also kind of hard to follow. Hopefully it gets better as it goes along.

It was a slow start at first talking about life before the Russians invaded and now we are getting to the part where they are fleeing. 1. I have read books similar to this by the fact that it is very hard to get into but usually the books that are harder to get into tend to give the best reward by the end of it

  44. I am reading I Am Malala and the introduction to the book is not what i expected it to be. I thought it would jump right in, but it is really slow. This book is about a girl named Malala and Education. Normal teenage girl. We havent learned much about her as a person but im sure it will come.

  45. What drove me to want to read Night is just the time period it is set in world war 2. that has always been something that has interested me. And I have never really read or learned about it from a person in the camps views before. So that is the big reason I picked Night, because it from a different point of view that I've never learned before.

  46. I am reading the kite runner and so far reading the book it is drawing me in the more I read it, as this wasn't a book that I had chose it seemed uninteresting at first. Even now as I read it it seems as it has a very slow start which kind of makes sense as it is the longest book out of the selections

  47. I am reading the night. I was interested in this book because i think the holocaust is interesting. It got right into the story and it got me really interested quickly although the first few pages it was making me yawn and was kind of confusing. But once i really started reading now i cant stop.

  48. What has attracted me to this novel is the fact that she was shot in the head and still survived good. I believe that the main focus of this novel is that Malala is a strong woman that has been through a lot, survived a bullet wound to the head, and is still advocating for schools after she survived. After reading the first few chapters of the book, it is a slow start and a little bit hard to get into but I am still giving it a shot!

  50. what attracted me to the book was the story, i always like reading stories abut the halocaust because they are always different. I like how this one is from a childs perspective because he doesnt fully understand what is goig on and us as the audience have to infer what is going on as hes talking about it.

  52. I was attracted to the book Night by of reading the story behind the book. I've always been interested in the holocausts and how the Jews fought for there freedom. WW2 has a hard time for many people but the Jews were not treated humanely at all and need to be saved from the Nazis because of there leader Hitler. I also like the theories behind his dead like how they say they found him in a bunker. everything about the holocausts interest me.
